How to Setup Microsoft Authenticator

This article describes how to set up Microsoft Authenticator for use with your Florida Poly NetID account. See the articles Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for more information on the MFA security technology, and Microsoft Authenticator for more information on the Authenticator tool.

To Setup Microsoft Authenticator:

Step 1. Access the mfa.floridapoly.edu web page to create or change Authenticator settings.

Upon first use of any Florida Poly applications that require Authenticator MFA (such as all Microsoft 365 applications including email, office apps such as Word and Excel, OneDrive, and Teams) the system will route you to mfa.floridapoly.edu automatically.

Step 2. Enter your Net ID and password

Step 3. Download the app on your mobile device

From your mobile phone, install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your iOS or Android device

  • Click Work or School account

  • Click Scan QR code

  • From your PC, Click Next

  • Click Next

  • Use your phone to scan to QR code

  • Click Done

Florida Poly allows several methods of confirming MFA; you can choose the methods that work best for you. We highly encourage you to set up two MFA methods involving different devices (such as 1 and 2 below) so that if you are in a situation in which you do not have access to your mobile device, you can still log into your account.

  1. Approval via the Authenticator App by Microsoft installed on a mobile device. (This method is highly recommended as it gives you the best control and assurance of security of your account.)

  2. Link delivered to a personal email address

  3. SMS text code or phone call delivered to a mobile device

  4. Phone call to an office phone

You may change your MFA settings by visiting mfa.floridapoly.edu. For instance, you can add backup methods or change your default method.

Additional Information

In addition to providing redundant MFA capabilities, having two MFA or more methods will also allow for easier password resets by going to passwordreset.floridapoly.edu.
