User Backups

  • Logon to your computer with access to the backup drive

  • Open the IT drive in Windows Explorer and navigate to \\floridapoly.org-->fpudfs-->IT-->Storage$-->Helpdesk Archives-->User_Backups folder

  • Create a new folder named with (the user "smith)  username

  • Open a new window and navigate to your username on the C: drive, located at C:\users\<your username>. If you're prompted by the explorer window for permission to access the folder, click continue

  • Copy all of your folders and files from C:\users\<your username> to the new folder you created on the IT drive

    1. You will need to verify the contents of all the folders, but you will likely not need to copy the following:

      1. Contacts

      2. Links

      3. Roaming

      4. Searches

    2. If you are unsure about what to copy, it is always better to copy more than you need than not enough and lose any necessary files.

  • Be sure to back up the AppData folder, as well. This file is normally hidden, and cannot be seen in the structure of your user account folder. You can navigate to it by going to C:\users\<your username>\AppData

  • After the computer finishes copying, double-check and make sure everything was copied correctly

  • Disconnect the IT drive

  • You may then proceed with re-imaging the machine if necessary

  • Check the warranty status; if more than a year is left the computer will be reassigned to another user. Otherwise short-term loans.
  • Store the computer in the appropriate loaning location.
