Word (Windows) - How to Track Changes in Microsoft Word Documents

To review the changes in your document

  • Open Microsoft Word if it is not already opened, click Review in the top menu bar.

  • Click the drop-down arrow from in Track Changes to see the different ways the document can be viewed with tracking.

 

  • For a detailed view of changes, click All Markup in the Tracking section.

  • For a simpler view using red and green lines in the margin, click Simple Markup.

  • To see how the document will look once all changes are made permanent, click No Markup.

  • To see how the document would be with all changes removed, click Original.

To Track Changes in Microsoft Word open any document or a blank page.

  • Click Review in the top menu bar.

  • Click Track Changes in the top menu bar, tracking section.

 

  • When it's turned on, deletions are marked with a strikethrough, and additions are marked with an underline. Different authors' changes are indicated with different colors.

  • When it's turned off, Word stops marking changes, but the colored underlines and strikethrough are still in the document.
