Use breakout rooms to break participants into small groups during the meetings. You can open and close rooms more than once during a session or move participants between rooms. Only meeting organizers can create and manage Breakout Rooms.

  • Open a web browser and go to teams.microsoft.com. If necessary, log in with your Florida Poly username and password.

  • update to the latest version of Microsoft Teams if necessary from this link Teams for Education desktop app.

  • Join your meeting at its scheduled time and wait for your participants to join. Your meeting will open in its own window.

  • When your participants have joined and you are ready, click Breakout rooms from your meeting controls.

  • Follow the on-screen prompt, choose how many rooms you would like to create from the dropdown.

  • Choose whether you want Teams to assign students to rooms Automatically or Manually if you'd prefer to assign students to rooms yourself.

  • Click Create Rooms.

  • The rooms will be created with a Closed status.

  • Add participants to the breakout room to change the status to open.

Organizing a meeting with breakout rooms is currently only available in the Teams for Education desktop app
